On behalf of the ESCP SIG Education and Training, the moderator has delivered courses which focus on introducing clinical pharmacy teachers to the use of real patients as a learning resource with the aim of developing their teaching skills. The course is aimed at experienced clinical pharmacists who wish to develop their clinical pharmacy teaching skills.

The one day course provides the opportunity for participants to plan, experience and reflect on using real patients for clinical pharmacy teaching.

• Identify opportunities in the clinical environment for problem- based learning.
• Consider patients’ perspectives in clinical teaching.
• Describe organisational requirements, consent and briefing necessary when using real patients in clinical pharmacy teaching.
• Plan a teaching session including the writing of learning outcomes and learning activities which use the patient as a learning resource.
• Experience clinical pharmacy teaching in a real clinical setting.
